Do you or anyone you know need camouflage make-up due to a recent cosmetic or plastic surgery procedure? Such as, facelifts, eye lifts, dermabrasion, laser or chemical peel, or even “Body Sculpting”?
Bruising, blotchiness, prolonged redness of the skin and possible scaring are normal after effects of these procedures and will need cover up and concealing products as the healing process takes place. Our specialized products conceal any all of these after effects. Look for gentle cosmetic products that cover and conceal burned and irritated skin. Sometimes these conditions take a while to heal. You may need different concealer products along the way.
Use:
Special Care Cover™ is a healing formula for sensitive skin. This concealer is based with a medical grade petrolatum and will gently help heal red and irritated skin while it covers. It is opaque enough to do the job of concealing yet will not pull this delicate skin.
Killer Cover™ is a concealing camouflage cream foundation which is designed for difficult to cover bruises, blotchiness, tattoos and such. However, after a cosmetic procedure ask your Doctor when you can use this or any other foundation. Killer Cover should be used after the healing process takes place.
Killer Cleanser™ will remove all types of heavy camouflage make-up and is designed to remover Killer Cover.
The Everything Pencil™ is simply the best concealing tool you can use. Originally developed for use in Plastic Surgeons offices it will cover redness, bruising and scars as it all starts to fade. Convenient and portable for touch-ups during the day.
Orange Masking Crème™ helps hide bruising and will fill in color on the face if there has been a loss of pigment.
Below is a brief study of post surgical, laser, dermabrasion and cosmetic surgery for your review.
There are a myriad of cosmetic plastic surgery treatments to choose for every part of the body. They include: facelifts, eyelifts, laser surgery, dermabrasion, micro-dermabrasion, chemical peels, body sculpting, and nose jobs to name a few.
Newer and more non-evasive cosmetic procedures, such as Botox, Restylene, Sculptra and Radience are excellent adjuncts to many plastic surgeons practices today and are gaining popularity. Not everyone makes an ideal candidate for some types of treatments such as, laser re-surfacing and chemical peels. Your doctor will guide you on what is appropriate for you.
Concealers are a major part of procedures because bruising and redness will occur to some degree, according to the American Society of Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery’s website education procedures at www.plasticsurgery.org. If you are considering plastic surgery or cosmetic surgery, we urge you to research their site and you will be guided in the right direction. As with any medical procedure, there can be complications but the rewards can be miraculous. Do your homework!
Looking better after plastic surgery
Most people are eager to return to work and social activities after plastic surgery. How quickly you do so depends on two factors: how you feel and how you look. Your surgeon will let you know when it’s physically safe to resume your normal activities. But only you can decide how comfortable you feel with the way you look.
Almost everyone has some temporary cosmetic side effects from plastic surgery, such as swelling, bruising, or visible incision marks. It may be days, weeks, or even months before these signs disappear and you can full appreciate the results of you surgery. But there’s no need to sit at home and wait. There are a variety of makeup products and techniques that can be used by men, women, and teens to camouflage the temporary side effects of surgery and help you face the world with confidence and ease.
When To Start
It’s best to ask your surgeon’s advice before you start using camouflage cosmetics. Most people can begin applying makeup to cover bruising or disguise swelling as early as a day or two after surgery. If you want to hide incision lines, you’ll need to wait until the stitches have been removed and the incision is completely closed.
After nose surgery, you can normally use makeup as soon as the cast is removed. With a chemical peel or dermabrasion, if a crust has formed you’ll need to wait until it’s completely gone.
What you need to do
There are three basic approaches to camouflage cosmetics: concealing—hiding incision lines and bruises; color contouring—neutralizing color in reddened or yellowish skin; and contouring—disguising swelling and creating the illusion of highlights and shadows.
Concealing
Camouflage Concealers are thicker and more opaque than regular foundation makeup. They can cover healed incision lines as well as scars and bruises on your face or body. However, on a burned sensitive skin, we suggest a lighter and gentler concealer that will protect but not pull the skin. See more info on Special Care Cover. It’s not a good idea to use a heavy concealer on the thin, delicate skin around your eyes, since concealer is thick and will collect in the creases. Instead, try using a normal, more creamy concealer or even a creamy foundation in a stick or pencil form.
Color Correcting
Color correctors are used to disguise the yellowish shade of a bruise or the overall redness that follows chemical peel and dermabrasion. They come in tints: lavender corrector neutralizes yellow tones, while green corrector removes red.
Less opaque than concealers, color correctors have the same consistency and sheerness as foundation. They’re generally used under your foundation or alone.
Contouring
Contouring can be applied anywhere on the face, but it’s most often used to disguise the swelling that accompanies nose surgery and facial implants. Contouring creates dimension using light and shadow; lighter areas appear to come forward, while darker areas recede. The techniques of contouring are subtle and take practice. You may want to consult with an expert.
Removing Camouflage Cosmetics
Camouflage cosmetics tend to be thicker and more adherent than everyday makeup, so it’s important to remove them every night. First, use a makeup remover crème and then follow with your normal cleansing routine. Then use a gentle, alcohol-free toner applied with a cotton ball to remove any cleanser residue. Follow this with a moisturizer formulated for you skin type: oily, dry, or combination. Our Killer Cleanser is a perfect makeup remover.

ASPS, founded in 1931, is the largest plastic surgery organization in the world and the foremost authority on cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery. All ASPS physician members are certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
